The Seafarers’ Charity is working in partnership with the Maritime Charities Group to explore how maritime welfare charities can best respond to the social care needs of ageing seafarers who may feel isolated as a result of their seafaring career.
This work is considered necessary and important given our ageing population, the lack of a government strategy on social care, and the increasing cost of care homes which are impacted by constraints on local authority budgets. It’s also essential that we support and take care of those who have worked at sea for many years.
