Supporting the Next Generation of Maritime and Fishing Industry Professionals
At The Seafarers’ Charity, we are proud to fund a range of incredible organisations and initiatives that provide opportunities for young people to build successful careers in the maritime and fishing industries.

Through funding and partnerships, we aim to break down financial barriers and support the next generation of talent. Here’s a look at some of the organisations we have funded, making a real impact:
We are proud to support UKSA’s bursaries and welfare officers, who help aspiring superyacht crew members by providing essential training and mental health support. UKSA’s welfare team offered over 1,100 sessions last year, providing crucial support for students facing mental health challenges and financial hardship. In 2024, we also secured an additional £30,000 from the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation to further fund UKSA’s bursaries, engaging other funders to support this vital work and investing in the new generation of seafarers.
The Fishing Porthole, created by Fishing Into the Future, is a fantastic resource for those looking to start a career in the seafood industry. It provides bite-size learning and vital resources to help individuals take an active role in fisheries management and data collection, ensuring a sustainable future for our fishing industry.
With our support, the Clyde Coastal Training Scheme offers young people across the west coast of Scotland a structured pathway into the fishing industry. Through funded training and hands-on experience, participants gain the skills needed for lasting careers at sea. Our current joint funding for a Development Manager post is helping to expand and sustain the programme, creating more opportunities for local youth.
We are proud to be part of SWFPO’s pioneering Fisher Apprenticeship programme, which offers hands-on training and experience for apprentices. Our funding helps provide financial support for those who need it most, ensuring they can complete the programme and begin their careers in fishing.
Thank you so much for the funding. Without you, I wouldn't have been able to do my yacht masters - Aroha Oakley, UKSA Superyacht Cadet.
Help us continue funding these vital initiatives and create diverse, sustainable career opportunities in the maritime and fishing industries.
