Seapost - February 2025
The latest e-newsletter from The Seafarers' Charity.
Seafarers keep global trade moving, yet many face financial hardship, isolation, and difficult working conditions. For over 100 years, The Seafarers’ Charity has funded life-changing support to improve financial resilience, mental health, and safety at sea. During Payroll Giving Month, donating through Payroll Giving is the most tax-efficient way to help. Your donation comes straight from your pre-tax salary, meaning every contribution costs you less while delivering more impact.
This month, we’re spotlighting Islay & Jura Community Enterprises (IJCE), our Charity of the Month, which provides wellness activities, mental health support, and practical services to help seafarers navigate financial, social, and health challenges.
We’re also committed to driving change in maritime. As the main sponsor of the Women in Transport Equity Index 2024, we’re championing gender diversity in an industry where women make up just 2% of the workforce.
We proudly fund the Sea Views podcast, produced in partnership with CHIRP Maritime. The latest episode highlights ISWAN’s Safe at Sea… it takes all of us! campaign - also funded by The Seafarers’ Charity and the UK P&I Club - tackling abuse and harassment at sea and promoting male allyship for a safer, more inclusive industry.
At the recent UKSA Superyacht Cadetship graduation, we proudly recognised The Seafarers’ Charity Top Cadet, celebrating young seafarers whose careers have been made possible through our bursaries. We also visited Whitstable to celebrate National Coastwatch Institution volunteers, whose work keeping our shores safe is supported through our funding.
As we mark LGBT+ History Month, we remain committed to a more inclusive maritime sector. Our Coming Out Toolkit supports LGBT+ individuals, while our ongoing work with Pride in Maritime helps foster inclusivity across the industry.
