In 2023, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded £2.4m in grants to 50 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.
Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

Sailors' Society
Joint grant funding with key maritime welfare charities awarded to support five Indian seafarers to return to their home country after being imprisoned in Iran for 19 months.
Amount awarded: £1,500
Sailors' Society
A grant awarded by the Seafarers International Relief Fund to fund a medical helpline and distribution of 5,000 COVID-19 Care Kits to seafarers at 10 major ports in India. Kits include: a digital thermometer, pulse oximeter, hand sanitizers, mask, basic medicine and vitamins.

Sailors' Society
A grant awarded to deliver Chaplaincy Port Outreach welfare services in Scottish ports. This involves providing counselling for physical, mental health, emotional and spiritual wellbeing and linking to the International Crisis Response Network.
Amount awarded: £70,000
Sailors' Children's Society
A funding contribution towards supporting children and young people from Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleet families on low incomes. The grant will help with essentials, such as school uniforms, winter coats and shoes, school trips, educational equipment and more.
Amount awarded: £75,000
Safer Waves
To provide an online email support service to merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual harassment, gender discrimination or sexual assault while working at sea.
Amount awarded: £4,000
Royal Liverpool Seamen's Orphan Institution
Funding to deliver a more meaningful and sustainable level of financial grant support to the sons and daughters of deceased merchant seafarers and fishers.
Amount awarded: £75,000
