In 2023, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded £2.4m in grants to 50 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.
Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

Merchant Navy Welfare Board
Grant funding awarded in 2022 to continue funding the UK Port Welfare MiFi Partnership Project.
Amount awarded: £4,500
Marine Society and Sea Cadets
Grant funding was awarded in 2022 for Phase 2 of the Marine Engineering Pathway Project, supporting the development of nationwide engineering skills for young people over a six-year programme.

Lighthouse Seafarers’ Mission
Grant funding awarded in 2022 to support the salary costs for 12 months of an additional 1.5 FTE staff at the Lighthouse Seafarers Mission in the Falklands. This will enable greater amounts of time to be spent with seafarers - interacting with them more often and as required. It will also allow for additional staff training to enable improved responses to the needs of seafarers, and a greater number of ship visits to take place. In addition, with the many Ukraine and Russian nationals coming into the Port, the workload has increased to care for their needs.

Islay & Jura Community Enterprises Ltd
Grant funding awarded in 2022 to deliver services and activities which support current and retired seafarers, families and dependents on the Scottish Hebridean islands of Islay & Jura to improve mental and physical health and wellbeing and safety at sea.
Amount awarded: £9,995
International Maritime Health Foundation (IMHF)
Grant funding awarded in 2022 to support the creation of an additional Magazine Section in the 'International Maritime Health' scientific journal. The theme of this segment relates to the health and wellbeing of active seafarers.

Human Rights at Sea
Grant funding awarded in 2022 to support the costs of a small team to investigate the facts on the ground in Ukraine, fund three publications in English and Ukrainian, and to support staff to capacity build with welfare organisations to support Ukrainian seafarers and their families.
